The political determination by Governor Corzine and Democrats in the State Legislature has produced an unprecedented plan for property tax relief and reform. The relief is substantial and the reforms are real. Close to $2.3 billion will be dedicated to ongoing tax relief for 95 percent of the households in the state - cutting their tax bills as much as 20 percent. Rebates for renters will double.

The State Senate and General Assembly just approved the plan - even winning over a majority of Republicans who don't want to be on the wrong side of the plan. The Governor is now giving it a full legal review to make sure it will do the job. In the meantime you can use the Tax Relief Calculator above to estimate how much you will save.
