Trenton - Joe Cryan, chairman of the Democratic State Committee, announced on Friday that Diane Legreide has joined the staff of the State Party as executive director. As head of the state Motor Vehicles Commission, Ms Legreide was widely praised for transforming the long maligned agency into a well managed, customer friendly organization.
With a network of stations and offices serving motorists statewide, the MVC interacts with more people than any state agency.
"Diane Legreide is a highly skilled professional who knows how to get the job done," said Chairman Cryan. "If she can transform the state's motor vehicles services, she's New Jersey's version of a miracle worker. Her experience, her attitude and her abilities will be an invaluable asset to the Democratic Party."
Ms Legreide most recently served as director of operations for Governor Dick Codey and for Governor Jim McGreevey. Her professional background includes service on the Casino Control Commission and as deputy executive director of the Senate Democrat staff in the State Legislature.
Chairman Cryan, who recently assumed leadership of the state committee after serving as vice chair for four years, said Ms Legreide will be the day-to-day leader for the state party's political agenda and operations.
"Our immediate goals are to advance Governor Corzine's agenda, to help Senator Menendez's election and to aid Democratic congressional candidates," said Chairman Cryan. "We will also turn our focus and our efforts to invigorating the Democratic Party at the local and regional levels. Democrats win elections with a determined focus on each respective campaign, but our vision must extend beyond each election day. A grass roots infrastructure will help sustain the Democratic Party's strength for the long run."
Chairman Cryan said he will team with Ms Legreide to get more people engaged in the political process, to increase voter turnout and to utilize new technologies to advance the party's mission.
